NARS contest and Kandee's entry!!!

Her blog video (she didn't post it on youtube, mind you) says the following:

'so NARS asked me to recreate this look from the book for their website...I said "yeah, that'll be fun!"...
(side note: Nars didn't pay me a penny, and doesn't even know I made a video or this blog about it. I'm just so excited I want one of you guys to win!)

Basically, Kandee was 'asked by NARS' to do a look for their website (?) and she didn't even know what it was for! Boom, she checks their website and sees there's actually a contest going on! What a coincidence! She uploaded a photo for the green eyeshadow look (look #4) and it has 19 votes already (I'm on central european time, 3.09 pm as i write this). Her photo is NOT a video, is a picture, and it is uploaded in the GALLERY OF CONTEST PARTICIPANTS, not as an instructional video!

Can you believe this?

1- NARS asks her to recreate looks. Just like that. And she has the shamelessness to mention she didn't get paid. Oh yea, cause I totally expected NARS to pay HER!
2- she didn't enter the contest- ofc she did! her mug's on the #4 look's gallery! WITH VOTES!
3-there's no such thing as 'recreated looks' gallery or anything on that website. Check out for yourselves. I've been trying to find it but couldn't. If there is, I apologize and my bad.
4- why is her photo getting votes if she didn't enter the contest?
5- on the NARS website- nothing mentioned of her.
6- so they asked her to recreate that specific look and she just saw the contest.

I am DEFINITELY writing NARS about this. Seriously!

Typing this as I'm watching:

- Orange foundation as usual.

- The green is ON her brownbone - WTH?!

- Pencil brushes are not for blending Kandee, this is why your crease has random splotches of eyeshadow on it. Also it's not called a 'little angled brush'.

-Why did she apply a brown cream shadow in her crease in the beginning? She put a gazillion layers of shadow on top of it so it was completely pointless.

-Her blush application... OMG. THAT MUCH?? On your temples Kandee?...

The whole look is a complete splotchy mess with her usual clown blush look and overlined lips. I'm seriously baffled as to how she qualified as a MUA anywhere.

Also pretty disappointed in NARS. They obviously sent her a massive pack of products and told her to create a video to promote their contest. I have NEVER seen Kandee use a single NARS product ever before, it's a bit suspicious that she suddenly has a million obviously unused products. She was clearly using the green shade for the first time, judging by her excitement at the colour.

It's pretty sad how cosmetic companies are selling out to promote their products to a wider audience. Can't really blame them though - Kandee is one of the most popular gurus so she's an excellent medium for product placement. I just thought NARS was a bit more serious/professional company that wouldn't let itself be associated with blatantly untalented YT gurus who have been accused of fraud. The same goes for NYX and Urban Decay. I'm a bit more reluctant to buy products from these companies now - not major boycotting, just a little disappointment.

And wtf is going on here... I'm pretty sure she was sponsored by NARS to do that vid judging by her new products. But entering the contest when she said she wouldn't is disgusting. This could be the end of Kandee.

Oh and on the comment thread at her blog post, AshnaR asks her if she entered the contest cause her photo is there, receiving votes, and she says she didn't but NARS entered the picture!

Ok she didn't say NARS themselves uploaded the photo (my bad) but that they asked her to, which is quite the same thing if you ask me (in the sense of conceptualization of the fact and not the literal action of uploading the photo, who did it) and she is NOT in the contest! her photo is receiving votes!

That looks more shady on NARS' part due to how she wrote it.
If she was "asked" to create a look, why wouldn't they use the picture where the model is, not in the contest section to receive votes?
The way she wrote it up makes everything seem really off.

Thankfully she's not even close to having the most votes.

To be honest, the more I look at the entries, the more mad I get about the contest, in general.
Kandee's just another notch in the shadiness. It seems that the same 6 people are on top in every single picture. I wonder how that could be?
It seems none of the top looks are even remotely good (minus the Kale guy's) or remotely similar. So, it's come down to being a popularity contest, at this point.

NARS says on their rules page (the little 'i' in the top right) that if you enter for more than one look, you'll get 10 more votes, if you enter for the third, you'll get 20 so on and so forth. My personal favorite is Matt Monroe's entry, don't know if he is the model or not but he surely is talented..and has the bone structure to pull it off.

Yeah..shady all the way. perhaps is NARS' fault, who knows, they might actually have sent her a few products (I've never seen Kandee using any of their products till now) but to have her publicize their contest...I don't think so. There are too many people on their newsletters for NARS to give a sh*t about Kandee Johnson Sparkly Farts.

If they REALLY asked her to do the look she could've given more info than just that. I just can't buy it. She is too talentless to be taken into account by a giant like NARS. It's like MAC paying LollipOOp or something. Doesn't make sense.

And why would NARS upload her photo in the contestants gallery? It just doesn't make sense, they could have featured her makeup look somewhere in the corner of the page or just put a link to her blog. I just can't see NARS doing this, sorry! This is where my vehemence comes from, getting all worked up about it.

Perhaps it went like that: Kandee won some products herself, or just got sent some freebies from some magazine (I doubt, again, that NARS would ever send HER anything, they don't do this kind of stuff) like Glamour or something, from the collaborations she's had, and she also knew about the contest. She just lied about NARS 'asking her' to recreate a look since she knew nobody would bother to say otherwise (I see no exec from N. reading her bullsh*t blogs, honestly) and perhaps they'd keep quiet since she's got free products or something. Next, she thought she might as well participate but then seeing other peoples' talent (come on now...those people are fantastically talented, some of them like the Matt dude...he IS a makeup artist, not a professional face painter like Sparkly Farts here) totally deflated and started saying 'oh no, no, guys, I want YOU to win!' translation 'My look was as lame as f*ck and I can't fool so many people cause nobody's as dumb as those bitches who pay attention to my bullshit motivation speaking...so I'm just gonna play cool and say i don't want to win'.

What a piece of sh*t this woman is. She used to be pathetic and ridiculous, now she's downright gross...

I don't think NARS sent her anything. I bet it was some magazine like Glamour or Seventeen. Then she saw the contest and got the idea. or perhaps the products were part of some deal. I do not think NARS would do this...sending stuff to some bullshit YT 'artist'.

They would have featured her look or just post a link to her blog post on the website if they were the ones endorsing her little stunt.

I checked that Nars site to see what the rules and regulations were for the winners. I was specifically looking for any mention of "professionals" being disqualified. While I didn't find anything that says professional make-up artists are disqualified I did find this:

Entrant Content Restrictions:
The image uploaded by the entrant and any related content (collectively, the “Content”) must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement;
The Content must not disparage Sponsor or any other person or party affiliated with the Game;
The Content must not contain brand names or trademarks other than those owned by Sponsor, which entrant has a limited license to use to incorporate in his/her entry or entries in the Game;
The Content must not contain images or artwork not created by entrant;
The Content must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, tortious, defamatory, slanderous or libelous;
The Content must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; and
The Content must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any state where the entry is created.

Please note the part in bold. I would take this to mean that all products used to recreate any of these looks must be entirely Nars. I mean, why else would Nars be holding a contest if not to promote themselves?

But according to Kandee's blog, she didn't use all Nars products to recreate her failed look.

Someone needs to contact Nars for clarification on both product usage and professional mua status.

No, that means that the picture cannot have any brand names in it.
IE: A Pepsi can behind you, or you wearing a brand t-shirt. It's to prevent people from trying to plug their own makeup brands or NARS getting sued by other brands.

So now we have this video, the one where her false eyelashes are hanging off, the one with lipstick on her teeth........and yet people actually believe she worked on celebrities and movie sets. Yeah, you mentioned the most important thing here- she fails. again. how can some people (like her followers) be so imbecile? to believe this woman is an 'artist' in makeup when she clearly doesn't have a clue? anyone can rub on some eyeshadow with a brush and call it 'blending'...how can people be so stupid?

I just cannot wrap my mind around why people fall for the celebrity MUA in films and television story at this point. She can't even do her own makeup to put herself for youtube without constantly making mistakes like this, and we're supposed to believe she got actresses ready to go in front of the camera? lol It's so crazy. She is so full of it. I knew she would enter, and she can't claim that NARS asked her to do that, wtf would be the point? The only benefit of a company asking a youtuber to create a look for their website is so they can link it for the added publicity. Other than her mention of it on her blog there is jo publicity being added by her photo being entered in the contest section. I don't know who she thinks she is fooling but there is something seriously off about her. It also irritates me lately that she continues to say she isn't being paid yet she likely is being paid ir received free products or is receiving additional funds through her partnership hits.

How. Fast. Is. Her. Tutorial????

She took no time at all, compared to a Pixiwoo or Lisa Eldridge tutorial where they guide you slowly though colour placement and blending. Half the time she apples something and I can't even see a difference!

I don't understand WHY she had to go to their website to see the look they had already specifically "asked" her to recreate. She has the book right there! Does anyone here have Nars email updates? I think she either received a regular email (like everyone else) and is embellishing this to sound like she was personally asked (and then clearly entering) OR she is lying about the reason and circumstances in which they asked her.

I don't understand how she missed that eyebrow, she barely talks to the camera but mainly to her own reflection! Personally I think that from afar (when you can't see her dire blending) she looks better in the video than in the photo she entered for the contest. There her socket looks over defined she looks like a skull.

At the end of the video in the "bonus" section at 14:12, she says she is going to be at fashion week so she's not entering the contest! I don't see why she'd enter the contest if she was already going to be there? Unless she wanted the fancy room and dinner? Maybe NARS is already sending her as payment for doing the video?
