Makemeup89: Ramadan Hate

Post  bebi on 10th August 2011, 8:53 am

Admittedly, I've never seen this girl's videos before today, so I don't know her whole story, but just want to talk about what I've seen. Her video came up in my suggested videos, and it was called Respect Me and Stop Discriminating. In the thumbnail I saw that she was wearing a hijab, so I pretty much knew what it would be about. Basically, she's wearing the hijab for Ramadan (and for the record, I'm not Muslim, so it's not me defending my own religion, just defending what's right and what's not) and she has apparently received a lot of hateful comments and messages from her subscribers for wearing it. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised. She has a beauty channel which also includes vlogs, cooking, etc. I didn't think girls who watch beauty videos would be so offended and hateful over her wearing a hijab for Ramadan. There are always Christmas videos with sparkly makeup and no one is offended. There are pastel makeup videos for Easter and no one cares. So she made a couple videos wearing a hijab, explained why, did a makeup tutorial, and then showed a tutorial on how to wear the different hijab styles. She even made a video on cooking Ramadan food, which anyone can eat and enjoy. MakeupAdikt has done similar videos, and recently posted a video talking about why she wears the hijab. I just didn't expect that her subscribers, which are probably teenagers, to be so reliously intolerant. The younger generation is supposed to be so much more open and accepting of different cultures. It's really a shame. She got so much hate that she didn't wear the hijab in one video to avoid the comments, and ended up getting negative comments from Muslim girls for not wearing it. She wasn't preaching her religion, pushing it on her subscribers, trying to convert anyone, saying her religion was right and the others are wrong, she was just sharing some interesting info for those who don't know. More people need to know these things so that the hate will stop. I hope she continues to wear the hijab for Ramadan and any other time she feels like it, and I hope she does Middle Eastern makeup tutorials, and just continues to share her culture instead of hiding it out of fear of "offending" the intolerant people. First, I am posting her videos that are Ramadan/hijab related, and then I am posting one from MakeupAdikt.

What happened to the rest of the videos I embedded? I asked a mod to delete the first one in the post I put by mistake, but now it's just showing codes? And yes, why isn't it getting more replies?

Recent videos that led up to the new one about them discriminating her. One about some cooking for Ramadan, one was a tutorial of a purple eyeshadow look with a hijab style tutorial for the second half, explaining about what Ramadan is about, things like that. I also posted one from MakeupAdikt that she posted in the last few days about why she wears the hijab.

If people are honestly that intolerant and have subscribed to her, they have the option of not watching the videos as what the video is about is clearly expressed in the title. No one is 'forced' to watch.

The makeup looks were beautiful and the food looked delicious.

God people frustrate me.

It's messed up due to the coding that you tried to use.
The forum is BBCode, therefore, when you want to embed a video, you need to use the little video button on the top of every post. Simply paste the link into the line it gives and it does the rest for you.
I'll go through and fix it all.

Ladies, there is NOTHING more intolerable to me, than intolerance!!!!!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one, am actually enjoying experiencing other cultures, even in the small way of watching YouTube! I don't care if you're Muslim, Christian, gay, straight, or Australian- if you're entertaining, and harming noone else, you're FINE with me!!!!

No Sad. My fiance's family is Muslim and it's funny because they are SO accepting of me (and I'm atheist). His father and brother wanted me to convert to Islam, but his mom said no because she can tell that we love each other and that's enough. Whenever I visit, they all treat me with respect and do everything they can to make me comfortable. I'll never understand religious intolerance, it's one of the stupidest things to fight about - they're all pretty much the same at the core.

Omg, this makes me so ANGRY. I can't believe people can be so mean to others based on their religion... I mean.... come oooon!
I totally agree with you about what you said when it comes to tolerance and acceptance - I expect people these days to be more open and respecting of others' culture, religion, lifestyle etc. But it turns out people are still behaving like idiots. Growing up in a multicultural area really helped me, I learned a lot and it was fascinating, I can't believe people aren't more interested in these things? I mean, instead of being against something you have no knowledge of, why not ask questions and educate yourself? I know the way Muslim people are viewed by others, often they are portrayed negatively in media, and it just confuses me how people these days are so dumb jumping to conclusions. I'm an atheist, and in my old group of friends, we all had different religions and views, we got along great, nobody questioned my atheism, nobody forced any opinions on others, we discussed our traditions and respected each other, it was fun to belong to a group of diverse people, and learning about other lifestyles. Strange how people don't realize the value of respect and knowledge about the world we live in.
