The years go by, less and less people will show up and you'll eventually only see computer geeks coming. It will be big for around 3-5 years the most. Every golden era has its downfall.

There is always going to be a new youtube "star" that fans are going to want to meet. As long as they continue to bring the right people in for panels/meet and greets, its never going to end.

I know it's going to be even bigger next year. It really all depends on what the people at youtube decide to do and where to take the site. It all depends on whether the community keeps going. It depends a lot on Nerdfighteria as well, and that seems to be going strong.

next yr they booked a convention center. if i remember correctly hank said it can hold 60,000 people.
i don't think it will be going away anytime soon, this yr's was sold out, with 2,000 people outside who didn't have tickets.
now with more funds they can make it bigger and better.

I know there might be people who probably won't like these videos, but I think it's good to see something different other then "I love Vidcon!" or a "Vidcon rocks!" video.

In my humble opinion "VidCon sucks because it costs this and this much money to get there" and "sighhhh @#$%^ everybody all they @#$%^ want is @#$%^ money and you're all @#$%^ stupid fffuuuucckkk" aren't very good arguments...

I didn't say they were good arguments. I just like seeing different people opinions.

So much word. There are so many guys on YouTube like the first one, "exposing" YouTube "whores" yet he chastises others for not making original content. People paying for VidCon know what they're getting into, no one is tricking them. I don't love all the big YouTubers, but the accusations against the Vlogbrothers are really baseless as they have acknowledged Zefrank many times as their inspiration and he has been to VidCon. Plus Project for Awesome isn't only awareness, they raise money for charities too. Rolling Eyes

I only watched the first video, but I just can't really agree with any of his arguments against the Vlogbrothers.
Yes, they make money off of YouTube-but they do so much to bring awareness to various causes and donate their own money as well, that I just can't take anyone seriously when they say they're all about the money.

Wow, I didn't know vid con costs money X-x.
I thought it was just a convention where people meet up and youtubers promote their channel, meet subscribers, and sell merchandise.
But wow it costs that much to enter?
Dang.

I saw a lot of people in the comments section of a few different vlogs saying that VidCon was cancelled this year. Were they joking?

I wonder if they are mixing up Vidcon with Blizzcon. Blizzcon has been cancelled and it's held in the same convention center.

Conventions always cost something to enter. I go to Starfest in Denver every year and those tickets are $50 - 85. I also attend a professional conference in Salt Lake City every year and that one costs $2500 to enter so these fan cons are way cheaper than professional conferences.

I'd love to, but I I am already attending 2 conferences and 1 convention this year already. I just can't justify another one.

I would love to go, but being from Australia, a trip to Vidcon would probably end up costing me about $4000 so I have little hope unless they ever did an Australian one. Which they wouldn't because we are so far away from everything Sad

Huh, very interesting. He raises some interesting points but I do have to disagree with a couple points. I admire the vlogbrothers, both of them are very accomplished individuals and what they've done isn't just "Feel good" fodder. But they've got the ball rolling on doing some actual good. Their Project 4 Awesome has become an amazing resource to finding trusted organizations that if you so choose to donate you won't get scammed.
What I don't get is how is VidCon any different than any other convention? "Financially Driven Bullshit" That's what ALL cons are. I've been on staff of cons. It's about the money no matter what. Vidcon donates to charity again (while I'm positive they have to make money to go back into the con, I don't doubt a portion is going to be donated)
In my opinion. It's just a convention, it's just a gathering but it attracts guests that people get so emotionally involved in and are scrutinized beyond any level of any public figure I've ever seen. I think it's really more that they seem so much closer since nobody really has a huge big budget like a movie star or television star has.
Random point on sxephil making money off other people's deaths. While I find phil there to have the most douchiest demeanor on camera. It's his job, he makes money on reporting news in his own style. He gets paid to report this shit. He's going to profit off of it with or without ads on his video. Really people, think about it. They're all paid by outside sources. Sponsors, partnerships. It's just how it is now. Take it or leave it.

Going

Post  salaam on 21st February 2012, 8:26 pm

Well, I decided to take the plunge and just bought tickets for my friend and I. I'm very interested to see what it's all about. If anyone else is considering going, the early bird tickets are sold out so it's $100 per community ticket now.
