"OMG you're soooo gorgeous" comments
some makeup gurus get it all the time, by almost every single viewer. would it bother you if you hardly ever got any of these comments if you decided to be a makeup guru? or does it discourage you because your looks may not be well received?

If I was a guru, I'm sure I would be getting those comments left and right - and I'm not even pretty. I've been watching makeup videos on youtube for over 2 years and I noticed almost every guru gets "you're so pretty" comments - even fatass pinkiecharm and ForeverKailyn. I have come to the realization that many people who watch these videos don't have high standards. Either that, or I have a feeling there are a lot of homely girls who watch these gurus and of course these gurus would seem pretty to these girls because they are better looking than THEM.

Re: "OMG you're soooo gorgeous" comments
Oz, you're right, every makeup guru does get at least a good few "you are beautiful" remarks--I've observed some who get just a couple here and there but there are some makeup gurus who get an EXCESSIVE amount of "omg you are so gorgeous" comments on every single tutorial they do. If I were to do a makeup tutorial I would feel pretty crappy if I didn't get as many...kinda discourages me if I wanted to do something like that.

I don't think I would feel bad about not getting them because I'd at least feel like my audience wasn't just trying to suck up to me, which is how a lot of those comments come off to me.
But I mean, I know I'm never going to be a contender for a beauty pageant-and I'm perfectly content with it, so maybe it's just that I have a high self-awareness?

I don't get the whole "OMG you're SOO gorgeous" comments. Honestly they really creep me out. Especially with all the young girls watching gurus like Meghanheartsmakeup. It's one thing to look up to someone, but it's like they see her as a God or something. "Ohh we could never be like you, all powerful being". I don't know... it's hard to explain how I feel about it. It just really, really gives me the creeps.

I feel like young girls idolize what they relate to or strive to be. To me, it's a case of hero worship. Most of them, from my own personal experience & once been a young gal, will grow out of it.

I'm with you there, I find them a little creepy too. It might be flattering I guess, but personally I think it's wierd to get compliments like that from people that you don't know who judges you physically from a 5 - 10 minute video.
Re: "OMG you're soooo gorgeous" comments
I think it is nice to some extent but there are some comments that make me question their sanctity like the "YOU ARE SO PRETTYYYYYYY.I WANT TO BE YOU, YOU ARE SO PERFECT" comments that scare and extremely annoy me.

People either have real low standards or just want the youtuber to like them, the amount of times ive seen a ugly youtuber having a contest and then subbies commenting have added that "your the prettiest girl eveaaa" it makes me LOL so bad.

I don't take what anyone say's over the internet personally- good or negative.
people look different in photos and videos than in real life.... on camera their skin looks flawless, hair perfect etc. because they are filming and can make the camera make them look good....if someone see's you in real life than i feel they are in the correct position to judge you.
everyone on youtube gets called gorgeous when they clearly aint.

It probably wouldn't bother me much simply because I am really weird when it comes to compliments. My boyfriend gets onto me about it all the time because when him or others give me compliments I really just laugh it off and don't take it seriously. If it were a bunch of strangers it really wouldn't bother me if they didn't throw compliments at me 24/7 because to be honest that can get really creepy. Plus constant compliments are annoying and seem fake after a while.

Re: "OMG you're soooo gorgeous" comments
It annoys me when I see people commenting, OMG you're pretty, gorgeous etc etc etc.
Tell someone that enough times and they'll start to believe it a bit too much.
Sure, a few comments are fine. But when every comment is that, to me, it starts giving the youtuber an undeserving ego of themselves.
It's like telling someone on facebook that they should get into photography when they nothing about and got lucky with a half decent picture.
To the untrained eye it looks amazing. To the trained eye, it looks mediocre at best.

Please elaborate on the untrained eye thing. I’m interested in hearing more.
Anyway, I couldn’t agree more! It's so irritating how ALMOST EVERY guru gets "you're so pretty" comments. I'm fine with people who are actually gorgeous getting those comments, but when plain-looking girls are constantly getting those comments, it's downright infuriating. Often times, it's an average-looking guru who is very well-groomed with nice hair, but facially still plain. (amarixe, ilikeweylie, TiffanyD, QueenBeeuty and many others) Even when these gurus come on camera without makeup looking super plain, they will STILL GET “YOU’RE STILL PRETTY WITHOUT MAKEUP” comments. Um, no, you look homely without makeup.
Of course their teeny bopper subs would think they are pretty - they are fooled by the illusion of great hair and great makeup. They are so easily impressed. What annoys me the most is that these gurus start to believe these comments! Little do they know that ALMOST ALL GURUS are complimented on their looks. Sorry to break it to ya, but you are NOT PRETTY. I don't care what their idiot subs say. People who watch youtube videos appear to have relatively low standards!
Another thing I noticed from watching blogtv and video responses is that a lot (NOT ALL, but a lot) of girls who watch makeup videos on youtube are.....to put it bluntly, below average looking. So of course, to these girls, these gurus would seem "gorgeous" because they are better looking than them.
Sure, some of you will say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Although that is true, there are limitations to that rule. Most people have conventional tastes in beauty and it's glaringly obvious most gurus who get these "gorgeous" comments don't get these comments in person.
There are only a handful of gurus who have looks that can compete with models and these are the gurus who are actually WORTHY of those compliments. (AndreasChoice, sardun1, DeziredBeauty and a few others)
"Gorgeous" and "pretty" are purely physical labels that only the truly physically blessed should receive. These adjectives shouldn't be watered down to include almost everyone. The words “beautiful” and “gorgeous” no longer mean anything to me after seeing them being used so loosely on youtube.
End rant.

I just realized I missed half my words. XD gah!
Like lets say Person A takes a photo. Person A knows nothing about photography. Person A puts it on facebook.
Person B sees the photo. Person B doesn't know anything about photography, lighting etc. Person B goes "omg, i love this photo! you're so good! people should pay you for this! you should get into photography!!!!" Person B thinks this image is awesome, but also has no knowledge of art or colours etc.
Person A starts to think, "hmmm, maybe I should." Person A takes more photos and gets more of these comments. After a while, Person A shows Person C who does photography and has lots of knowledge.
Person C has a trained eye to see detail, etc etc. Person C critiques Person A and tells Person A that it is bad. Person A gets all offended.
I can mostly tell when an image has been photoshopped, because I know what to look for. But to someone who doesn't know what to look for, most likely wouldn't be able to tell.
Person A thinks, "Ok, maybe
