State of Nevada Cosmetology board reply
Dear Ms. Lang,
Thank you for the information pertaining to Kandee Johnson. Our department will investigate this matter to ensure there are no violations of Nevada laws taking place. NRS 644. 380 & NRS 644.190 and related statutes and codes are very clear in that teaching any branch of cosmetology must be in a licensed school and by licensed instructors. My preliminary findings are that this is not the case but I see where the last GLAMINAR was held in Dec 2010 in Los Angeles and indicating it is the "last glaminar"which is not in our jurisdiction. If you have information on any future seminars or classes scheduled in Nevada please forward that to me.I will continue to investigate this matter to ensure compliance with all NV statutes and codes.
Thank you, Jeffrey Green

To whom it may concern,
I'm trying to establish if Kandee Johnson is licensed or has been licensed in the State of Nevada as a cosmetologist. Ms. Johnson currently lives in Minden, NV and works as a makeup artist (bridal makeup) and has stated numerous times she's has a cosmetology license. I would also like information if this license gives her the right to teach makeup.
In 2009 and 2010 Ms. Johnson held numerous (11 in 2010) "Glaminars" (http://www.glaminar.com/) including in Reno (November 13, 2010) where she taught women how to become a professional makeup artist. I know in my state in order to do any teaching, even in a seminar setting, you need to be a cosmetology instructor and have a license to hold the seminar. She handed out certificates to those who attended claiming that her certificates are proof of attending her "Glaminars" and that the certificates would help people get ahead in the field. Ms. Johnson charged people $495 to attend her "pro" class, $295 for her "makeup bootcamp" and $595 if they chose both classes.
http://kandeethemakeupartist.blogspot.com/search?q=glaminar
Is it legal for her, in the state of Nevada to teach women how to become professional makeup artists without an instructor's license? Does she have an instructor's license or does she have a cosmetology license? If she does not have a cosmetology license did she ever have one and if she when did she obtain it and when did it expire?
Sincerely,
MeLu Lang

Re: State of Nevada Cosmetology board reply
I have dealt with the state/judicial BS for 3 years now. Don't get your hopes up on anything coming of this and this is why I say this..
"My preliminary findings are that this is not the case"
Translation - Thanks to the state of NV for paying me for 8 hours to answer with a generic email. Let me stick it on the task list for next year some time to research further.
'but I see where the last GLAMINAR was held in Dec 2010 in Los Angeles and indicating it is the "last glaminar"which is not in our jurisdiction"
There is no mention to the one in Reno, so it's on the back burner for her stating the last glamimar was in Dec/2010. The Nevada Cosmetology Board will not delve further because the last one was in LA and their quote "not their jurisdiction" . Their main focus will remain the class she taught.
On the plus side the numbers have grown who are watching, so cutting of corners in Kandees world will have to stick to the senseless blogs and YT videos. For her to continue she will have to be on the up and up or very cleaver.
Now KJ has the NRS info and knows what to do in the future if/when cash is tight and she decides to pimp herself out for overpriced "CLASSES". I don't know what the SOL is on renewing a cosmetology license is, but I get the impression from the generic Mr. Green post she has updated and become compliant on that end.
Now the task is to hit the other cities for her teaching a class, attorney general's and checking on London rules for hosting a class and not some Glamy, fun day with the girls to learn how to do a smokey eye and bad blush. Okay, I admit the Glam Fairy from Jersey shore is on TV and hubby thought I might want to watch it before he went to the man cave (espn channel) & I have yet to get up and change the channel.
I personally have written letters to anyone and everyone who sponsors or endorses this chick. What will come of it??? Maybe little but it is out of my aura as a nasty evil eating away at me. You never know, the domino effect can happen if we all do the same and write/email anyone and everyone supporting this woman on her inconsistencies, shady contests, expired credentials, and FLAT OUT LIES.

Re: State of Nevada Cosmetology board reply
I've also dealt with my own State ATG in the past over several complaints I've issued. Many of my complaints were settled after being investigated. While some times an investigation may take a long time to be resolved, from personal experience, I can say that most times they actually do take complaints seriously ESPECIALLY if other people complain. I'll hold onto my hope that he will take my complaint seriously and actually investigate the matter. I am following up on the email since I didn't get the other info I requested. I'll have to put in a "2nd request" with that email.Sarisin wrote:I have dealt with the state/judicial BS for 3 years now. My reply to Mr. Green.
Thank you for the reply. I do know that Ms. Johnson has claimed on her blog that she continues to work as a MUA in Nevada working on brides.

Can you provide me with her license information? Date first obtained, date it expired or if it's still valid, please? What kind of license - cosmetology, instructor, esthetics, manicurist, barber? Thanks!

I'm just wondering what is the point? No offense but you took time out of your life to send an email to this Jeff guy. Is it really that serious?

The only people I think that this is serious for is the folks that have expressed that they were unhappy with the Glaminars and got threatened. This will only help them in their case.

quoting from FB:
"Matilde Gildebraud is begging you..... Please! Pleeeeeease!!! PLEEEEEASE sue them! There is a girl over there ( MeLu Lang ) who is writing companies and telling them you are not certified, etc., and costing you income - ie, the InStyle article. She posts some of it on FB, as well. Please don't allow them to continue to defame you as they are."
really interesting, the comments there... better than tv
