Kailyn's grammar is absolutely ridiculous

Post  leedlekaikaiz on 1st April 2011, 4:26 pm

I wish I could hire her a speech coach. I remember when I was in elementary school certain kids had "speech" lessons during recess, and I never understood why anyone would need professional help to learn to speak.

Not only does she lack punctuation EVERYwhere ("Mean a video I made", uh wheres the punctuation? Don't get me started on her tweets that are pure runon sentences. Going to the derm monday they are going to prescribe stuff i hope it works does anyone have any suggestions)

And then Kailyn apparently doesn't have the word "an" in her vocabulary (in place of A before words that begin with a vowel). It's always "I have a other one" "Here's a elf haul" "I also have a orange one" and then she exaggerates the A and makes it sound like "AY" so that it sounds better. "I have AY elf haul". Seriously? Is it that hard? I've tried helping her out and I was really nice about it. She didn't start doing the "AY" thing till I mention it. Uh, no Kai, I said AN.

Kailyn's bad grammer and non-use of punctuation relates to her education and intellectual capabilities. People who have speech therapy have problems forming speech sounds. It's a physiological problem that can be corrected through therapy, it has no correlation to their intellectual capabilities, which is Kailyn's problem. It is really annoying when she uses 'a' when it should be 'an' but it just shows how developmentally challenged she is.

I can't fault her for her online speech because in general anything you type online can be informal unless, of course, it's formal. I really don't give a crap if I'm not "grammaticality correct" typing online or don't punctuate anything because frankly I think grammar-nazis are basically like racists, since they have nothing to be proud of except something stupid like "being white" or "knowing correct grammar that people online don't care about" what have you. That might be because my minor was English, but I really don't care about grammar being perfect unless it's meant to be professional such as an essay or something for a job. Twitter is hardly a place people should be criticized for not being grammatically correct.

As for speech I'm surprised you've never heard of why something would need help. Some people have a harder time pronouncing certain sounds more than other people. Theres some sounds I have issues with and other sounds I've heard other people have issues with. However, being homeschooled, Kai didn't have the opportunity to see something about her speech problems which was her mom's responsibility. Kai has the same vocabulary as her mother if you've heard calls featuring her mother. I guess in maryland there are no qualifications you have to have to homeschool your child? Then again kai is never around people other than those at the walmart checkout line so she probably doesn't know about the word "an" or how words are suppose to sound. The only places she goes are with her mom. Then you never hear about david taking her out anywhere so where is she suppose to learn how to speak like a human?

*someone. Sorry. That's wasn't an "on purpose error". I misplace words in type sometimes, yet not in speech. It's a long story I won't go into

Um, no one will ever take you seriously if you can't use the words "your/you're" and "their/they're/there" in proper context. Spelling and grammar do count on the internet, because it is the basis of communication.

Those are different. I'm talking about mainly in chats and tweets, status, forums, things like that it's not important if you leave out a comma here and there, but people still know what you're saying and don't have to be a detective in order to figure it out. If someone is going to be a grammar nazi that's more a power trip they do to someone they probably don't like or don't think is very smart to begin with.

But things like this,

"HEY EVERYONE HOW R U TODAY?!"

That's just annoying. Shorthand "r" and "u" should be left to texts when you don't have alot of time.

I've also noticed with her when a word ends in "-ing" she never says the end. For example, if she were to say "something" it would come out as "somethin" It's beyond annoying.

Yeah I agree with that. I don't care about abbreviations or shortening words. But word choice and the spelling of simple words are important no matter what form of communication you use. If Kailyn can't differentiate between to+too, a+an(AY), theyre+there+their, your+youre, then+than, then imagine her trying to spell harder words. In her tweets her sentences are composed of words no longer than 5 characters unless it's her name or her favorite lipgloss. I just don't understand how she can't figure out how to use the words. It's absurd. She is 21, not 12. Even my 14 year old sister writes better than her. Her tweets are just ridiculous runon sentences full of misspelled simple words, zero punctuation, and desperate calls for advice. Whenever she tweets it's about one of her bodily function issues or it's a question about how to do something so simple. I honestly think she has never heard of Google.....

Haha oh god. And when a word ends in a D, she pronounces it with a t. Like "I'm using a double-endit brush" "Going to my boyfrent Davit's house"

Ugh

And EVERYTHING is cute, pretty, gorgeous, or amazing. I would LOVE to give her a thesaurus. I wish I could help her cause I can't handle how dumb she is. I try to ignore her and this forum sometimes because I know I'm gonna find something new and read about it, but her videos are seriously like a car accident. Or roadkill. When you pass it you know it's gonna be bad/gross but you just HAVE to look and can't resist.

Oh and GOD PLEASE tell me I'm not the only person who notices the way she pronounces "different"

I mean I know three syllables is a LOT for her, but I don't understand why she thinks it's pronounced "diff-ert" or "diff-ernt"

She makes it a two-syllable word. SO ANNOYING.

NO, KAI. IT'S DIFF-ER-INT. How is that so hard!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen multiple people make comments about this before, and plenty of them were actually nice comments and seemed constructive, but she just posts them and ignores them!!!!!

I babysit a Russian 5-year old and his English is as good as Kaka's. Wait, that's insulting. His is better. And he can pronounce words with more than two syllables.... It's ridiculous. And I'm not saying that to be mean....

"Different" is such a common word that is used every day. I can't imagine having a conversation with her in real life. It would be like talking to Grace from Secret Life..American Teenager's disabled brother. Every time Kai speaks it reminds me of him

AND "I been" instead of "I've been"

She does this both in videos AND on Twitter, so obviously it has nothing to do with the way she pronounces it. She just genuinely thinks that "I been using this lately" is a proper sentence.

I think the word 'different' can depend on where you live and how your parents have been taught. Kind of like how Caribbean can be pronounced differently. It all depends on your preference or how you've been taught on how to say it.

I don't think she realizes that the word "an" exists.

Re: Kailyn's grammar is absolutely ridiculous

May we all take a moment to remind ourselves that Kailyn's userinfo on YouTube was written by her MOTHER. Here's what it looks like now:

My name is Kailyn and I was born on May 18,1990. I am an only child and have lived in Maryland all my life. I have a wonderful family and a great boyfriend named David. I have a sweet Yorkie puppy named Bella.

Pink is my favorite color, and I simply adore pearls and ruffles. From make-up to jewelry to fashion, I love it all.

I started wearing a little make-up when I turned eleven. When I was fifteen, I discovered, through friends, how amazing Mac Cosmetics are. One visit to a Mac counter and I was totally in love. Make-up became my passion. I joined several make-up groups and tried to learn as much as I could about the beauty industry.

I started making make-up videos on youtube. It was a great place to share and learn about make-up. I have had so much fun and met so many nice and talented people.

I enrolled in a 40 hour make-up and skin care course in May of 2009. I plan to further my career in that field. Make-up is a beautiful form of Art. You can express yourself in many different ways. Helping people feel beautiful is amazing. Remember, shoot for the moon. If you miss, you are still among the stars. If you have any questions feel free to message me and I will get back to as soon as I can.

And in case you don't remember, or weren't around to see Kailyn's old userinfo (written by herself), it went a little something like this:

My names Kailyn Im 18 years old I was born on -date- Im a only child I live in Maryland. I have a amazing boyfriend we been together since -date- I love him hes the best!
I love makeup its my passion!!! I want to go to makeup school to become a makeup artist its my dream

Something like that... I mean, I understand text speech online (although I don't agree with it) but people with a brain know how to turn it on and off. Meaning that, if you're talking to your friends, you may use text speech (am I referring to that correctly?), but when you actually need to write something important, you present yourself in a different manner. The fact that Kailyn's mom obviously wrote her userinfo proves that Kailyn can't write properly even if she tried. Very Happy

Uh. Caribbean is a name. You can pronounce a proper noun any way you want. Different is a word that is used every day and is an extremely common word. It's like pronouncing "dog" or "seven". I'd imagine Kai pronounces them "dug" and "sen"

I don't agree here. I've always said different as "diff-rent". Is Kai saying it wrong though? probably, yes.

His name is actually David, but people call him Davit. I just recently started watching her in the last few months because of GG so I'm not exactly sure where it stems from. I'm guessing just her general speech issues, but I'm not sure if it's something specific.

i always thought his name was davey...but it is actually david. its just hard to tell what words she's saying sometimes Sad
I have noticed though that when a word calls for "a" before it, she says "uh", but if a word calls for an "an" she says "AY". I seriously wonder how she got her high school diploma sometimes...She must have been in some special ed homeschooling thing.

Is is possible she's dyslexic? :/ just a thought.
It pisses me off just as much though and even if she is, she would/should have been taught ways to cope!! My boyfriend is dylsexic, and didn't get given advice so I'm taking it upon myself to help him. However, Kailyn most probably wouldn't be patient enough to take advice/tips on speaking better.
