Vlogbrothers / Nerdfighteria
What is your thought on John and Hank? Or their Nerdfighter following?
Personally, I love John's books. I think he's a really good author for young adults.
Hank's music is kinda "ehhh" to me.
As far as Nerdfighteria goes-I'm all for it. I think it's great that they rally people together to try and help others. They've done wonders for funding for various tragedies and what not.
What do you guys think?

Nerdfighters ftw! John and Hank are both awesome. Yeah, Hank's music isn't amazing, but the lyrics are funny.
I love how much the nerdfighting community has managed to do to reduce world suck. The Project for Awesome is great... way better than any "guru" has ever done. It makes MP's "charity channel" look like a joke.

I have a lot of respect for the amount that they have inspired others to help. It really is a bit awe-inspiring.

They have changed my life, honestly. They taught me to defy expectations, to go beyond preconceived notions, and to believe in who I am, not who society wants me to be. They make me laugh, they teach me things, they make me cry, and I can relate to them. It's nice to have a small society where being a nerd is the best thing you can be, and nobody is excluded ever.

so agree with that Chrissy. I feel that it is SO wonderful to have that kind of encouraging energy. I'm 21 but still find it to be an environment in which I like to belong.

Nerds have always been a source of hatred for a lot of people for some reason, which I never really understood overall. There's something wrong with being self-aware and intelligent? It just doesn't make sense.

Re: Vlogbrothers / Nerdfighteria
I adore them.
Hank's music makes me think of They Might Be Giants, so it makes me love him even more.
I have yet to read John's books, but I'm getting there. I have twenty or so other books on my list before I get to his in my kindle.
The way that they started out on YouTube was awesome. Also, they're so into helping others and encouraging others to go forth and do something that makes them happy.
To be honest, they're the one YouTube channel I can't think of anything I'm against.

RJB, you won't be disappointed in John's books. I own all of them (including his two co-author books) and adore them each. (Looking for Alaska is my personal favorite).
I think it's amazing that they spend so much of their efforts "decreasing world suck" it's incredibly admirable. (Why are people like this not nominated for TCA web thing rather than Elle and Blair, and Shane Dawson?)

Also, can I just say that I think it's pretty amazing that John is personally singing every preorder/first edition of his book, and Hank gave everyone who ordered his CD a 10 word shout out in a video? I mean, that's just pretty cool to me. (I ordered the book)

I love the vlogbrothers. They're just so amazing, what with all the stuff they've done for charity like Project For Awesome, and they're just awesome in general. I've read most of John's books and I love them. Will Grayson, Will Grayson is one of my favourite books ever. I still haven't read An Abundance of Katherines but I plan to soon. And I like Hank's music, too. And I love when they do educational videos - it's just refreshing to see intelligent things on YouTube sometimes, and John inspired me to start reading The Great Gatsby, which is something I never would have tried to read otherwise. I usually think I don't like 'classic' books, and I think I'll find them hard to read. But reading along with John is making it seem more fun.

I love them so much. Hank's videos regarding Savann Tabak are partially the reason why I've been so actively involved in Human Rights.
I learn so much from the both of them. They're such amazing, kind-hearted, and intelligent people. More people should be aspiring to be like these two.

Anyone else watching this year's Project for Awesome videos?
Honestly, I love how much these two have done to help the world. I love the way in which they inspire others to help the world.
This year, John Green sold off all of the markers he signed TFiOS with. Not sure how many there were, but they sold at $20 a piece, and are sold out.
He also is selling digital copies of a zombie short story for $10.
Hank is selling drawings of his "Hanklerfish." Once again ,not sure how many copies there were, but he sold them for $50 a piece, and they're sold out.
He also was auctioning posters off. Not sure the end total for those.
With all proceeds going to charity. I honestly just think that it's pretty remarkable what they've done. I honestly wish I would see some of the top gurus getting involved with this project. It's such a simple thing. They aren't even required to actually donate their own money, they could just make a video to raise awareness for others.

Everyone is badgering the brothers to make a video about Kony, it's literally every second comment at the moment! Instead John made a video about Syria. I'm glad they're reminding us that other issues exist and continue to exist even if they've fallen by the wayside in the media. I don't think they will make a Kony video but who knows! If anyone is interested, here are their opinions about it!
I really need to stop talking about Kony
On an unrelated note, have you all read The Fault In Our Stars? Holy crap that's a great book! First time I've ever sobbed while reading.

I really do feel bad that John put so much work into his video and it got bombarded with Kony posts.
And as he and hank both addressed, it's not like they haven't advocated for the cause (outside of IC) before.
As for his books, I loved TFiOS. I got a green scribble.
I'm currently rereading Looking For Alaska.

Hank and John are more inspiring than anyone else on youtube. They talk about issues, teach new material and discuss everything while not making it sound preachy or boring. They are absolutely amazing!
