How to adjust exposure, color-correct photos in photoshop

Okay so hey guys! I don't know if you've seen me floating around the forums yet, but I've been doing various edits on guru's screencaps and photos to show how the photo originally would have looked. For example, this is a screenshot from one of Michelle Phan's videos:

Its a very low resolution photo, so the results aren't spectacular.
Part one: Tonal Correction.
I'm going to be using a video still of myself, so if you don't wanna see my mug, look away Razz

It may not look incredibly odd, but to me, it is far too pink/red toned, my lips look orange!
The easiest thing to correct this is to go to Image>Adjustments>Auto Color

You'll get something like this:

For me, I don't like this, so I'm going to open the "Color Balance" Sliders. You access these by going to Image>Adjustments>Color Balance.

Now, since I find my image to be too cyan-blue, I'm going to adjust the cyan balance, by sliding it towards the RED slider. Essentially, just slide it toward the opposite of what color you are looking to get rid of, til your highlights [whitish areas] are WHITE and have no odd tone to them.

Part 2: Contrast/Brightness Adjustment.
This is pretty simple to do, just go to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast.

Slide the sliders up and down til you find something you like. I will warn you though. The more contrast you add to a photo, the more saturated it gets, and that doesn't always look so good. I brought my brightness down and adjusted my contrast.

Now you can see the darkness in my hair, eyeliner and eyecolor.

Uhm, well I think that's it for now! If you need me to add another part to this feel free to reply with what you'd like to know! I don't want to boast, but I'm quite good with Photoshop. I fool people into thinking I have a super nice camera sometimes! Very Happy

Nice tutorial!

I don't know why Michelle over exposes her videos and pictures so much. To be honest, she looks just fine in normal lighting. Sure, her skin may have blemishes... but that's all part of being a human being.

I'd just to like to add for those who don't have photoshop and do not want to spend money on it here is a great FREE software just like it.

It has almost exactly the same features and pretty easy to use. If you're familiar with using PS then using gimp should be a piece of cake

I have very pale skin that I use the lightest shade of foundation, but I don't look like that in pictures. If you notice, she doesn't even have the shadow of her nose in the pics so her face looks like ghost and her eyes look soulless. What a Face

I tried to cyantone my photo to the point that michelle does and it just doesnt seem to work. It might be my actual skintone though, because my darker spots show up more cyan.

I love the tut. I was told about the warm (red/orange) vs the cool (blue/green) effects to compensate exposure settings in pics & vids in multimedia. That should helpful to everyone. (^_^) If I remember right, to get the cam to the right setting is usually go onto a white surface & see what the tint is if its not correct. Usually making sure the cam is the right setting, theres no need to fix the situation without PS or other programs.

Michelle looks better in the 1st pic, the 2nd one looks like she has jaundice with all that yellow. stop trying to dim her photo to make your ugly azz feel better! how about you just paint her black or something!

For you to say you are naturally pale and michelle isnt is very tacky and low budget. You dont know her at all. People do darken in the sun. You dont know someone to say theyre this or that. I know people who go realllllly dark in the summer and reallllllllllllly dark in the winter. They show up light in photos because therye naturally light skinned.
People who are dark will always appear dark in photos.(Gabrielle union,alek wek,wesley snipes,etc) people who are lighter will appear light in photos or vids. Black celebrities do not look white/spanish in any lighting.

Also, nobody in the world takes pictures in the damn dark! the brighter the better. It brings out your true tones. A ghost? people would rather look like a ghost than look all dark/dim/dull.
