Eyeliners: the good, the bad, and the UGLY!
Hey guys,
I do a lot of travelling, and if you do too then you may understand how hectic and stressful it is to try to figure out what to pack as far as makeup is concerned. I'll just get to the point...what do you guys recommend for a nude/champagne (preferably champagne) eyeliner?
I really don't want to shell-out $20 for Benefit's Bright Eyes, but I certainly will if it's better than most. I just want something brightening. I don't care about lasting power because I will reapply if needed. I don't want a white eyeliner.
I'm moving to Japan (my husband is a Marine stationed in Okinawa). I flew there over the summer and stayed for a month, and let me tell you, flying to Japan SUCKS. It's a killer on the body. I'll be flying a total of 17 hours, but with lay-overs it'll be 24 hours total travelling.
Last time I packed my BE matte foundation and brightening under-eye concealer (it's yellow, it works well on my rosacea). This time I think I'll just pack my MAC Pro Long wear concealer, as it has a better staying power and works really well on my skin (it's slightly oily with huge pores, and it conceals my pores and looks perfect all day) and it takes up less space.
I also packed BE mineral eyeshadows last time but I won't this time. Any recommendations for a neutral eyeshadow trio/quad? Nothing glittery, but something with a sheen or matte would be great. (I'm looking at Revlon 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quad "In the Buff" but I don't know if it's what I'm looking for...I don't look good with pink-toned shadow as I have very yellow-toned skin. No, I'm not Asian, I'm Irish/French lol)
Thanks guys! <3
Also, I'm always open to new travelling tips
I've been flying alone all over the world since I was 15, so I've picked up a ton of tips, but I'm ALWAYS looking for more!!

So cool that you're moving to Japan, hopefully you'll like it there. I've been traveling all over the world alone since I was really young too, but I'm sure we share the same flight tips - trial size stuff, lots of water, comfy pants/slippers in your carry on, etc. Something that I found really useful when I was flying to Australia was my nintendo DS, the battery life is very substantial so it can keep you entertained for awhile. Also, gravol. Nothing better than sleeping all the way there!!
As far as champagne eyeliner my favourite is the smashbox dual ended eye brightener. It has a nude waterline colour and a champagne highlight colour on the other end. My favourite portable look is like so: smashbox cream liner in putty on lid, black upper tightline, black waterproof mascara, nude liner on waterline, highlight end of the eye brightener on the brow bone, center of eyelid and inner corner. You can do this look with just the pencil your finger and an eyeliner pencil. Super simple. You can also get the cream liner in a mini palette with a little mini brush, then you can create a more precise look with it if that's your preference. You can also use the highlight side of the eye brightener to do the bridge of your nose, cupid's bow, and to highlight the depression under tired eye bags if you suffer from them.

I wish I had a DS, but I got a Barnes and Noble Nook a couple months ago and love it. That will be my travel toy
Also, thanks so much for those beauty tips. They help a lot. I really like how it sounds. I'll check out the Smashbox pencil for sure, I like how it is duel ended.

Long lasting, well pigmented white eyeliners.
I always line my waterline with white eyeliner. It makes my small eyes look so much bigger. It just seems to wear of so fast though, and I end up constantly reapplying.
Anyone know really good white eyeliner for the waterline? I use Wet&Wild right now, which is pretty good, but I would like something better.

I always use nyx jumbo pencil in milk. It stays on pretty good and is really creamy. Tip though, I don't suggest applying it right onto your waterline because it wont look good, it'll look way too harsh. I just get a little bit onto the tip of a cotton swab and then run the cotton swab over my waterline. That way it looks a lot more natural. You can always try applying a matte white eyeshadow over the top of your eyeliner this seems to help me a lot when I wear black eyeliner. Of course if you have sensitive eyes you probably won't want to do that.

Re: Eyeliners: the good, the bad, and the UGLY!
the only one i have id the white liner from GOSH. it's good but then i haven't got a lot to compare it too lol
the next thing i wanna try is like a pinky nude liner for the waterline instead, which tends to look more natural than white. anyone know of where i can get one from? they dont seem very common yet...

MAC actually has 2 eyeliners in their Cham Pale collection that just got released.. they're pretty much skin color, and they're named like NC15, NW15 (not sure of the exact names!)
I think those would look great on the waterline since they're more of a nude and less of a white if you want to check them out!

I agree w/ Amber about the NYX jumbo pencil. It's very thick and creamy and has pretty good staying power. I wear contacts and have watery eyes so it's kind of hard to get a waterline pencil to stay. I've also used a concealer pencil from Hard Candy that is a nice light nude color and worked excellent. I don't want to shout it out to the world though because I don't know if it's technically waterline safe. Let us know what you try

oh yeah i remember seeing those, thanks! i only get my eyeshadows from MAC though (as i think they're unbeatable) and seeing as it is not an item i would use every day id prefer to get a cheaper alternative first to see if i like it? but if i cant find anything else i may just have to get it!

I second this. They also have "I Get No Kick" kohl which is champagney. MUFE has a similar permanent color.
But MAC Chromagraphic pencils are crazy long lasting.

Prestige makes a waterproof kohl in white which I love.
Another possible suggestion is using a white creme liner as I find creme and gel liners last longer, particularly on the waterline.
Best of luck

Nude eyeliner
There is a really good one from Pixi that you can get at Target. That and the Stila Kajal in Topaz is ok.

If you don't want to shell out the cash , try Maybelline's cooling liner. They have it in Champagne and this other icy pink colour I can't remember the name of it. It's really good for the price. You kind of need to build up the colour though as it's not very pigmented.
Or you could try the Sephora nano eye liners. They're only five freaking dollars and they go on really well.
I really like the MAKE UP FOR EVER aqua eyes in Champagne 23L. It's expensive for an eye liner though , but it works really well and it's waterproof.
I also like the Stila Kajal eye liners. Their colour topaz is more on the pink side than the champagne side. It's definitely worth a shot.
As for the MAC ones , they are good , but I don't really think they're really worth it.

Eyeliners: the good, the bad, and the UGLY!
So, LanaIndiana just posted this video where she compared MAC Feline to Urban Decay 24/7 in zero...
... and holy crap, MAC failed terribly! I'm not a huge fan of Lana's, but that took major balls to wear her eyeliner all messed up like that in public without fixing it.
So, I figured we could get a discussion going about eyeliners! I know we have threads about nude and white eyeliners, but I didn't see one for regular black/dark colored ones.
So, go through your stash! What are your favorites, what are bad, what are AWFUL? Any type of liner is fine, not just pencil.
The good:
-Urban Decay 24/7 in zero: works very well, get a bit of a transfer to my crease area after 10+ hours of wear, but nothing horrible.
-Revlon Colorstay retractable in teal: Probably my favorite liner, I've never noticed it transferring, even if I've been wearing it all day.
-Almay intense i-color retractable in purple amethyst: almost as good as Revlon Colorstay, get a little bit of transferring by the end of the day but nothing very noticable
-Almay intense i-color pencil in midnight black (with smudger on the other end): This is a really DARK black--darker than UD Zero. Will transfer a bit more then UD. The smudger sponge on the end is great.
The bad:
-NYC liquid liner: This applies okay, but it seems to take a while to dry and gets flaky. Ew!
-jane gliding liner in black magic: This applies so smoothly, but transfers too much. Even when set with black shadow, there will be transfer by the end of the day. Too bad because I love jane's products!
The UGLY:
-NYC's $0.99Brow/Eye liner pencils in white & 927 (taupe, I think?): SAVE YOUR DOLLAR. These liners are HARD. Awful to even try to swatch on the back of your hand.
-Hot Topic creme eyeliner: I think they discontinued this... good thing if they did. It transferred INSTANTLY. Might be salvageable as a creme shadow, but ugh.

Re: Eyeliners: the good, the bad, and the UGLY!
I actually prefer mac liners over UD's. I'm just one of those people they don't work on
I tried to love them, I really did but it just didn't work out for me.
My favourite drugstore (I don't own many pencil liners) is the one from gosh that's retractable. My favourite gel is the one from sleek

If you hold the eyeliner up to heat and let it melt for a second, it should work just fine.

the good: aforementioned urban decay 24/7 in zero. overpriced, though. maybelline line stiletto liquid eyeliner. great stuff, close to impossible to mess up, and easy to remove
the bad: milani eyetech, it's the liquid liner that meganheartsmakeup uses. end of discussion.

Milani Liquif'eye liners work perfectly and stay on the waterline (for me anyway) and they are reasonably priced.

If you are near an Aldi, the Lacura liner is fabulous and only $3.00 and change, actually the whole Lacure line is worth it and SO affordable!! It has a thin design which makes it so easy to use, and stays put. Avon Supershock in black is killer, if you can find it - why quit selling that winner?!?! UD 24/7 and Sue Devitt eye pencil in Chiang Mai are also at the very top.

I forgot to mention L'Oreal's - Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil and I agree about the Milani Liquif'eye liners.

Me and MAC Feline don't get along very well. I got so frustrated with it, I chucked it into the trash and vowed never to buy it again.
