Selling her 50D Canon Camera

Post  Vert on 18th December 2010, 8:43 am

First time posting here but this really bothered me. She's selling her used 50d for $1000 which is quite steep for that particular model. I'm a hobbyist in the matters of photography so I pick up a lot of my gear used. Doing a quick search on some websites I use for buying and selling; the 50d averages around $750 for a used product (some go cheaper if it has noticeable cosmetic blemishes). The RETAIL price for this camera on the Canon USA site is $1099.00 (amazon sells it for $969!).

This really pissed me off because I know one of her fans are going to snatch this up thinking it's an awesome camera because "DulceCandy used it!" and think it's worth the $1000. She's trying to get retail on a used product with a shitty Best Buy warranty attached.

I would, and perhaps will, comment on her blog but I know her fans will bitch me out for not knowing anything or that she needs money for the baby or whatever.

I agree with you. I'm also into photography and when I saw the price I laughed because it seems she doesn't want to lose any money on a resale. Whenever you sell used equipment you always have to accept your loss. I'm always up to date with computer and photography equipment (I'm a designer) and it sucks when you have to sell so low especially since I take very good care of my things and they look brand new with no scratches and even the packaging is intact. Long ago I realized that you're lucky if you find a buyer for a fair price so whenever you find one you just sell asap. I doubt she'll find a buyer among her fans since her audience are mostly around 17 yrs. old but it'll be a scam if she sells that camera at that price to anyone.

I'm sure if she does sell it she will use the money to go on a shopping spree for herself.

1stly I can't believe an amateurish photographer would even consider spending that much on a professional camera?? Why the hell she needed such an expensive piece of hardware is beyond me! She upgraded to a camera worth twice as much - is she ruddy insane?? Well it's purchased using her "hard" earned cash from YT so why should she complain right? She's used it so why is she selling it for more or less the same amount she probably paid for it? We all know that most of her subbies are under 21 and are students. Who the heck can spare $1000?? It's hardly pocket change. Good luck getting someone to buy it.

The 50d isn't even worth that anymore because there is a newer model - the XTI is now very popular. Any time a company comes out with new products (example videocards - which are constantly being updated) the value of older models goes down INSTANTLY. Dulce really has no idea how to value her camera and I bet you she is trying to get 'quick cash'.
Hopefully anyone looking for a camera won't buy from her, you can get it cheaper at a store with a better warranty.

Aren't most of the photos we see on her blog taken by her bf/husband anyways? He uses her old Nikon (I don't know which one) so it's not like it really even matters what camera she uses.
Side rant:
- if they plan out 'photoshoots' why does she pick photos with technical errors like motion blur or back focusing to use on her blog, I'm assuming she has a good number of photos to pick from considering they spend the entire day doing it.

Seriously this whole buying DSLRs to take "better" pictures is really wearing thin. I remember when juicystar07 picked up a T1i and couldn't work the damn thing (let alone remember what she bought, she had to look at the box).

I have to say I have a small canon camera that I bought to take pics on vacation or when I sell clothing online but those cameras are not that great when it comes to pictures. I don't know why but I would love to have a professional camera just for the pictures's quality. The small cameras are not great but I don't think my husband would agree on spending more than 200 dollars on a camera. Dulce is lucky to be able to buy these cameras. I don't know about the quality of the product, I know that carrying a big camera around like this would make me so frustrated for fear to break it. Other than that, I don't know if professional photographers change their cameras that often. I know some photographers use vintage cameras. Cameras, phones, tv and electronic material get obsolete so quickly.

Anyone with a regular Nikon camera can take the same quality photos that Dulce does because her and Jesse don't use those professional camera's to their full potential. Her video quality even back then was never bad so i dont understand all this camera crap now. Its a whole big production.

my camera cost about £100, its 12 megapixel, and it works fine, takes good pictures its got this cool thing so if I shake whilst taking a picture it comes out a still picture really good quality (I spun it around the room to check haha) mine was a christmas present because I dont want to spend too much money on a camera, it s unimportant object, taking pictures for a blog to buy a hugely expensive camera is unjustified, a blog isnt even that important, its just a few pictures of her in her cheap tacky clothes in her rough area. Thats silly.

@tuna

No, you're wrong. Anything a new product comes out, the price of the old one does NOT go down. Look at iPods for example...the older version was still being sold when the new nano came out (the square one), and they were both for the same price. Check yourself bitch.

That being said...if you buy that $1000 camera..consider yourself a dumb bitch for not researching the price before purchasing a USED item. It's not like it was owned by Britney Spears or something.

I just checked her blog and apparently she sold her camera?? Who the heck would have bought it?? Unless she's making out that she sold it when she probably hasn't. It may have dawned on her that most of her "fans" wouldnt be able to afford it. Stupid bint.

Was calling me a bitch necessary? that was really uncalled for and btw you don't know shit about technology. I actually have an older generation rectangular (metallic) ipod nano and it is NOT the same value as the square ones, it goes for 40$(originally $160) for 8gb now depending on where you live and what stores you check. Value DOES go down because consumers are always purchasing newer generation products (new features/apps/file space which has the most appeal) and they want to get rid of the old gen product while it still has a bit of value to get money back on it. Did you even read the example I added in my post before about video cards? obviously not, so quit talking out of your hiney and you do some research! Rolling Eyes

I figured she wouldn't have a problem selling it. She's got enough people going through her blog and not all of them are teenybopper age. By featuring higher price items such as Louboutin shoes and Louis Vuitton bags people who have money to burn can come across her blog.

I would think she would invest in some lenses but she'll probably just blow it all in forever21 or something.

Sammie, don't comment on subjects you don't know anything about and you'll avoid coming off as an idiot.

I wouldn't believe she sold her camera at that price. She does lie about many things especially when she visits this board so much and wants to prove people wrong. If she did sell it then she probably accepted a different price or the buyer knows nothing about cameras.

And btw, I'm not "hating" just commenting on how a person can abuse her fame to scam people. In fact, I don't know why anyone would be jealous because with the type of photos she takes, she could very well take them with a point and shoot camera. It's actually a waste of equipment when she takes all her photos with the automatic function.

WOOW. Name-calling is uncalled for here. Chillax, gurrl.

Tuna is right. They're only the 'same price' for a short while when the new model has *just* been released. Sooner or later the price WILL go down eventually.

i dont think its a big deal, if people were smart they would think more about it like you did ahaha but its her camera she can do whatever she wants yeah its obvious she doesnt wanna lose money but i cant remember how expensive it was when it came out but it doesnt really bother me, it would probably be more rediculous if she was selling it for like 2-3 grand, so whatever, yeah its wrong but its not that bad compared to other people, i would say its actually not that bad if you were to say that to her, just be like "not to be offensive but the camera...etc" what you have to say, if you explain it correctly, most people wont mind

people might wanna buy from her too because they trust her more and they have an idea of how its used...did she explain at all what lens shes including, if shes including a more expensive lens that might be the reason why, who knows

prices of cameras go down all the time, because they come out with newer models all the time, dont expect a dramatic change right away but the price does indeed go down
