Hi, so I'm new to this forum but reading through all these pages at 3:30 am I felt compelled to add my 2 cents.
I started watching the shaytards mid 2010 just after RT was born...then I was obsessed with them and caught up on most of the videos (I found his early ones as a dj to be boring). Anyway like lots of people have said they have become increasingly annoying since the LA move.
1. How he blatantly lied about going only for the summer, it was so obvious when he was talking about putting plants on that high ledge thing in the house. And then at the end of summer to announce that they are staying because the kids have "settled in"? so ridiculous, why u no honest?
2. How he doesn't care much about having quality footage anymore, just "hey kids we need footage for today...do something."
3. How he thinks if he mentions products he legitimately likes he should get free stuff from them. I can't remember what the product was but he was talking about it for a few mins then said something like: "I should stop talking about ___ too much publicity. Hey ___ send me some ___" then the hehehe hahaha thing he always does. I think if you like a product you shouldn't mind advertising it for free, even if you don't get given samples from the company. To come to expect it (even in his "I sound like I'm joking, but I'm really serious" way) is annoying.
4. ST - he is my favourite of the family, so sweet and a big softy. It hasn't happened in a while but I used to hate it when Shay would fling the girls around then ignore ST when he wanted a turn. Obviously he was ignoring him because he's too heavy (which is no fault of anyones, just just get heavier as you grow up) to do that stuff but why do that stuff in front of the kid making him feel left out? Or maybe he could (he might have done this) have a chat with ST off camera about how when he was younger he would do those things with him and one day the girls will be too heavy too.
5. The calendars. I didn't think the idea was that bad, a bit different, but not too crazy. But then he had to go add pictures of staytards fans which was a horrible idea. The worst thing though was he specifically said in a vlog that he was going to include some major international holidays and was asking viewer to list dates in the comments (which I did). Then the calendar was made and ohhh only USA holidays where included. argh! is all I have to say to that.
6. PT - I don't think bratty is the right word to describe her, I think she's just attention starved. In a recent one take Sunday she was colouring a book with MT and seemed to be enjoying the one on one. But then RT came and started grabbing all her textas wanting to scribble on her book. And Pt got scolded because she should share. But if you where working on a nice picture then your baby bro came and ruined things would you be happy? and why was she told to rip a page out of her nice book just so the 1 yr old could be entertained for 2 minutes? Talk about not fair. RT would have been content with scribbling on a plain piece of paper.
7. RT - yes he is quite an adorable baby but i seriously think they overplay it too much. He seems to get away with whatever he wants just cause he's the youngest. eg. walking all over the kitchen bench in pretty much every vlog, jumping on the glass table (omg!) and most recently eating some cheese thing straight out of the jar. Admittedly he is in the terrible twos stages but seriously...take some action.
8. The podcasts - Shay talking over everyone (surprise surprise), not having a clear line of thought or stucture to the talks, but simply rambling about how hot MT is, and how he's so fit now (which does deserve a congrats but shut up already). I unsubscribed.

I know that seems like a lot of negatives but overall I think they are nice people with their hearts in the right place and are doing the best they can (which is a lot better than most people). I will continue watching.

I can understand how it seems annoying to some of you how Shay keeps pushing the selling of calanders, shoes, keychains, etc- but you kind of need to understand that the guy has four children he's going to send to college.

And yes, he is making a lot of money already from all of his channels and his production company, but they still have other things to pay for such as their houses, taxes, food, kid's clothing, etc. Raising four kids is expensive. And I'm sure in 10 years when they're sent off to college, tuition will be way more than it is today.

I do think the way he's trying to get all of this money is a little unnecessary and he is exploiting his kids and family by selling calenders- but if Shay thinks it's right and it's ok than I guess that's all that matters.

i don't mind the commercials, sponsors, calendars, shoes etc. they make a living on youtube videos and i'm happy for them bc they deserve it. i think they're a great family; well rounded, good hearted people with precious children and high spirited attitudes. it doesn't even bother me that much when shay talks over everyone.. what irritates me is how he "forgets" to make a video and waits until the last minute of everyday to post a video. how does he forget to make a video after 2+ years of daily filming?! he makes it seem like it's hard work and gives constant excuses about why he's slacking. it's a PAIN to hear him complain about how bored he is ..blah blahhh. i'd trade lives with him any day! his subscribers shouldn't have to wait on a shaytards video until the morning of the next day. we're the reason he's able to support his family and is baller status. i happily watched them until about 4 months ago...got tired of waiting on my daily dose of shaytards and moved on to other channels on youtube. -bfvsgf are entertaining to watch.

Do you forget to go to work? No. Youtube is his job! EVERYONE has a life, family, and errands to run. That's no excuse and it's not ok to "miss a day here and there." Telling someone to unsub when they don't like it is an ignorant statement to make. Yes he worked hard at his other jobs. Right now- youtube is his break.

But youtube isn't a job you have to show up to every day or you're fired. He's not fired until everyone stops watching him. Being late to put up a video is more akin to being late on rent. He's got other sources of income that have deadlines and are higher priority because he knows his viewers aren't going to stop watching because he's a day late on videos.

But I do agree that I hate hearing him complain about youtube or give these drawn out apologies/explanations for not posting a video. Hell I hate hearing him complain/explain anything in too much detail, he babbles.

Most people don't go to work 7 days a week, without vacations, and 12+ hours at a time. Does your job entitle you to do that? Will you ever work a job that does that? No, I don't think so.
On top of producing daily vlogs which requires him to video himself all day and then upload it to his computer, edit for 3+ hours, and wait an hour for it to upload, Shay also has to help out the kids, run errands, and produce/write/act in other youtube videos. He has a busy life.

You need to stop being so hard on him. The dude deserves a break here and there, and if you can't respect that than you can't respect him. Going to work, 5 days a week, 9 hours a day, with vacation time is WAY different than the amount of work Shay does. You have absolutely no idea.

As the person above me has pointed out, Shay doesn't have a boss and he can't get fired. He's in control of when he wants to put up a video. And whether he does or doesn't a day or two, he still gets paid. Why? Because people will still watch his other videos.

Give the poor guy a break, I mean really. He deserves to have more days off than he actually gives himself. For blogging 2+ years EVERY SINGLE DAY, he deserves at least a month without posting videos, just for him to reconnect with his family. But he doesn't because he loves his viewers too much. The least you can do is respect that and understand where he comes from, and not get your panties twisted in a bunch just because he doesn't put a vlog up one day.

Actually for him YouTube is more of a regular job than for some YouTubers - ShayCarl is one of the founding members of Maker Studios. So besides his YouTube channels (which he probably gets help editing these days), he has duties and responsibilities at the studio, whether he films anything there or not.

They wait to edit videos to be able to include things that happen in the evening. For people that live on the east cost or down south they are three hours behind us so say we may be calling it a day at 10 pm, it's just 7pm there. Shay doesn't upload and edit his own videos, anymore. They have hired someone for that.

Okay, I'm not saying Shay doesn't work hard, because I'm sure he does, but honestly this is a little bit ridiculous. No, my job doesn't require me to work 12 hour days, 7 days a week without vacation time, but I also don't get to be my own boss and have a huge part of my income come from filming myself while I go about my daily business. He DOES go on vacation, he just films himself while he does it which I guess some people would consider to be 'hard work' but honestly, he's just pointing a camera at himself. I'm not jealous of Shay and I'm happy for him, but don't act like he has one of the hardest jobs on the planet because he works long hours and doesn't get to take days off. As you said, 5 days a week, 9 hours a day, with vacation time IS way different than the amount of work Shay does because to be honest Shay's job is much more relaxed. He's even said so himself. He used to work in the granite industry where he probably worked 9-5, 5 days a week and he said he HATED it, and he's so thankful that he's able to make a living off youtube. And I havent watched the vlogs in a while, but I thought he didnt even edit them himself anymore? And seriously, waiting 1 hour for it to upload? that's hardly work.

Personally I wouldn't say people like Shay work harder than the average person, but you seem to think all he does is think up ideas, film and edit them. What about the studio he co-founded? There's lots of work trying to start up a studio like that from scratch, especially if you try and keep it independent and don't have investors. Maker studios manages a lot of YouTube talent these days and there is definitely work involved in that.

I think Shay might have lost viewers due to over-exposure. It's just not a wise business move. I think he did it to help his sister and his family which is a pretty selfless thing, but it's effected his bottom line.

And like some of you have pointed out the hyper produced videos (mom's view, carly, etc.) are kind of not very cool or cutting edge. They kind of have to keep their edge. It's you tube. I was surprised to see Lisa Nova in some of those videos because she seems far too cool for that.
At the same time I actually do have some interest in Carly and Collete. Carly is very charismatic but I mean the fake bachelorette? I mean, that's pretty cheesy. And I think Collete is actually a talent and great to listen to. She just needs to ditch the intros. I'm sure a more low key version of something she can generate might work better. I mean, I don't know. But these videos are kind of low quality in a way (sorry). I mean like someone said it kind of is like watching lifetime and this is the internet and you tube and young and progressive. And I know they are discussing mom issues and that's what they're doing. It's just the style.

I also think Shay may have lost some viewers when he became openly Morman AND a guy living in LA with a gay editor at the same time.
Alienating christian/family values people on one side (not all. obviously!) who dislike the LA lifestyle.
And alienating some viewers (on the left) who might have been weirded out by the Mormanism.
So I think he may have lost viewers on both side their. Only possibly.

But I personally think his videos are better now that he's in LA.
I think if you look at him now he seems much happier. He is busier and rushing around more, but maybe that's all part of delving into other ways to make a living because he knows/fears you tube can't last forever.
Look at him three years ago and look at him now. The move has obviously energized him. I feel the videos are more interesting now personally. I like the LA backdrop. Sorry to criticize about some of the knock of videos. I think they are just still maybe trying to find what works. Trial and error. How else can you learn?

I can't watch them. I have seen some of their videos and I always feel so uncomfortable about how the kids are exploited. It's not natural for kids to be dancing and acting in front of cameras and I think that when that becomes the norm in their lives that they are just being set up for problems later on. To me it's similar to what we see in reality shows all the time. Families that go on those shows usually end up split up by the end. Their lives don't seem better by the time the cameras leave. So imagine if it's your parents with the cameras. What happens to these kids when they grow up and have to go out into a world where they aren't celebrities, where they aren't being filmed all the time. Just sounds like a recipe for disaster for the kids in the long run.

That's exactly what kids do! Kids love to be the centre of attention and if there's a camera on them they're going to perform whether it's the shaytards, a sibling, niece or nephew. I really can't fault the kids - they're happy and have loving parents who are always around. Some people are not lucky enough to have that.

Having said that, this marathon has been milked to death. 15 videos about it in 4 days. I'll be glad when it goes back to normal.

I haven't been following the Shaytards at all for months, but I just watching his marathon video (the full vlog one) and I'm super proud of the way he's turned his life around. I can't believe he's gone through such a drastic change in just a few months, it's very inspiring.

shay is really starting to age... did any of you guys notice? he is definitely getting some wrinkles and his eye bags are getting a lot heavier than it used to be! his hairline is also pretty far back but i don't rmbr if it was always like that.

i don't know if the wrinkles and baggy skin is from the weight loss or from aging though... but he should do something about it! he looks like he's in his late 30s now

I don't think he should do anything about it, I prefer my shaycarl un botoxed and plastic surgeried.

You say that as if looking like someone is in their late 30s is a bad thing. He is 32 so he's not that many years from actually being in his late 30s. You honestly think he should get plastic surgery? What has this society devolved into?

my father always looked young/around his age then he lost weight and it aged him atleast 10/15 years... i think when you are over weight for so long it is hard for the face to just bounce back. i also personally think shay looks around his age, but i know it is common for weight loss to age someone.

He looks way better now that he's cut his hair!

Oh dear hoola! I think the vast majority of Shay's aging was just from being tired and possibly a bit of dehydration from so much running. He's been a hard grafter in the past so yes he's going to look his age. Some moisturiser and daily sun protection would go a long way - botox and cosmetic surgery just seems a little too vain even for Shay. I'd be worried of the results! Hopefully the kids are putting on sun protection while they're in the West!
