Black People
So, I was doing some more "research"...
Most of the gurus are asian or white. There are actually a lot of black gurus but this "community" does not recognize them.
I'm noticing a huge racial gap here. And granted, black gurus and asian gurus tend to talk about different things.
THe obsession I see for gurus in the online asian community is kind of ridiculous. In the black community, gurus are seen as "that lady with the good video". Every now and then, if you've got super long hair & people think its a weave, they remember your name.
I'm making an observation here. Anyone else see this?

Re: Black People
We talk about ThesPNation and Ateyaaa, someone jsut opened a rave thread about her.
But I do agree with you, you have to remember though that we normally watch what matches our skintone. Most of the board could be one or two races (Not that it is), but that could be the problem.

Re: Black People
Sure, there's a huge racial gap, but you have to consider who is watching these gurus.
I don't watch Caucasian or "Black" (sorry, I just feel wrong using that word!) gurus simply because I can't relate to their skin types and skin problems.
It seems like many of the people here are Caucasian or Asian, which is why you see most gurus being talked about are one or the other.

I found this rather.. confronting and kind of racist. It's just a simple demand and supply. It's just there are a lot of Asian girls willing to do these videos which is why more and more Asian girls are starting to watch.
That's just how it is.

True, black people aren't as concerned with "skin lightening" and acne as much as asians or caucasions. I still know a bunch of black gurus though. Mainly because i'm black. lol

I think that's cuz black women tend to say something to someone's face rather than gossip about them...

Re: Black People
I'm African American and I watch gurus regardless of their race but I noticed that as well and I don't know why it's like that. The one I notice that has some recognition on youtube is MakeupDOLL, Tanesha advice...ateyaa and if there's others I haven't heard of them yet.

Re: Black People
Well I am Asian, but I don't watch people specifically of my race. I don't really need to watch someone with the same skin tone as me because I watch for eye shadow application, contouring, and other techniques.
This thread did worry me at first when I saw the title, but yes I must agree that there isn't that much recognition for many black gurus. This is truly unfortunate.
I absolutely love scandalous beauty, thespnation, makeupD0ll, icraiz, destinygodley, nunaavane, the accidental beauty and now I'm so happy I found out about borderhammer! She's so pretty! And her voice sounds nice. I also found out about excelleATL from here, and she is so cute. Also Divineblackness does awesome mascara reviews, and she's really sweet. I watch people who are White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern...pretty much anyone with a decent personality and makeup skills is on my radar.

Yes "should" being the key word. The problem is, only the featured and partnered people are more readily seen/heard of. The people I mentioned are the most famous ones (scandalous beauty, thespnation, makeupd0ll) but the others that I like aren't that well known. I'm mixed Asian too, so even though I may not look it, I am part black and I guess I tend to gravitate more to them than to Asians I dunno. Please everyone, list some more awesome black gurus so we can learn about them and subscribe...:/

I'm Eurasian, no black blood lines though and that does not matter to me. If a person is pleasant, has skills, etc - they are worth it.

Re: Black People
I'm black, chocolate pudding colored, I guess. I'll watch any beauty guru regardless of race or features. I usually only watch the technique, and then substitute in colors that work for me. Same with the hair tutorials, I'll use their tips on how to do a side braid, then I'll try it on my curly hair. It's all about taking something and twisting it around to make it work for YOU.
Ohhh, man, there are tons of black gurus: ulovemegz, KISSseventyseven, NaturalHairGrowthShow, longhairdontcare2011, kimmaytube, MissLBailey, lilpumpkinpie05, borderhammer, saloncabello (these are the only ones I know off the top of my head). They're all big sweeties, too.
There are hundreds and hundreds of black gurus, you just have to know how to look for them. I'll make a more compiled list of those I'm subscribed to when I get home. (:

Re: Black People
I'm actually glad someone addressed this, and I'll try my best not to make any racial slurs/insults- not purposely trying to, but I understand some people are very sensitive about several things.
Whenever I go to the "How to & Style" section, I hardly ever see a Black/African American "guru" on the main pages. I'm pretty sure I can go check right now, and not see one. I do think they're unappreciated, and I do agree that the majority of the gurus are white/suburban teens or some type of Asian (Michelle Phan, HollyAnnAree, fromhead2toe, bubzbeauty, xteener, and Faffinettex3). I hardly ever run into Black gurus for some reason, and I have to admit I don't watch many- exception would be Petrilude, not sure if he has some African American in him.. and SP Nation. I think one of the main reasons why Black gurus aren't as popular, is probably because they deal with different issues. If you think about it, Black women have a harder time finding a matching foundation/powder/tinted moisturizer/basically anything in their tone/shade. It's because the majority of cosmetic companies and lines only offer limited shades, and even the "dark" shades don't cut it. Black women also have a harder time maintaining their hair, and they have other hair issues. Yes, it's very easy to find a tutorial that says "How to curl hair like Taylor Swift" but it's harder to find a tutorial dealing with weaves, relaxers, etc. I just think the majority of gurus are white/Asian and we have to subscribers/spread the word about other gurus who are Hispanic or Black.

It's not just black though ...there are many other races that you don't see on youtube often as gurus. For example I have never seen a pakistani or native american guru either.
Isn't andreaschoice black?
The only black guru I was subscribed to was artminx86 and it's because I heard about her from heather123 when she won her contest. I subscribed to her and watched a few of her videos but I have to admit I don't watch her anymore because her videos do not relate to me. She mainly just does things like putting in and taking out a weave, relaxing hair etc now. But if you go to her channel and look at the people she is subscribed to you will find alot of other black gurus.

I'm Eurasian - how is that motley? Many Eurasian women and men are considered to be some of the most attractive on the planet - I pity you, how long have you had rabies - or is it syphilis - something has wormed your brain. You will be deleted anyway -

Re: Black People
I am myself colored and honestly i agree with you, most of the gurus have pale or white skin which isn't a bad thing, it's just that they do make up for their skin type, then when i come to look for make up for darker skins it's always either very dark people or cholas doing make up...
Even hair tutorials, it freaking kills me when i see people who put in their description boxes "how to tame frizzy/curly hair" and then you end up with someone wearing a weave or someone who has one small wave in their hair and identify it as "curly"...Plus, i made this observation to several "gurus" who claim to have wavy/curly hair when their hair is straight and they told me to gtfo...At the same time they just like to waste people's time by putting incorrect tags/descriptions/titles...
