Member's Favorite Products

Post  Guest on 24th October 2010, 8:19 am

Hi LuLu,

Has there ever been a best products round up or roll call here? Maybe even a 'don't bother' thread? This site would have a ton of gold to mine as far as information on beauty item Holy Grails. There have been plenty of times when I've purchased a product and it did not wok out because the Ytuber who recommended it was just the wrong coloring or skin type or maybe even paid to endorse it in a favorable light.

I envision it to be age categories, like the poll you have of 'How Old Are You' and maybe even adding one for an older audience like 50+ because that's a whole new ball game then.

Categories such as:

Skin care
Foundation
Powder
Eye
Lip
Blush/Bronzer
Tools/Brushes
Hair
Nails
Lotion/Cremes
Fragrance
Discussion board on cosmetic procedures and recommendations for good Drs.
Diet and Exercise
Misc - Etc

It may take a lot of work riding herd of all of that but it may be a very useful resource for this site and may pull in more traffic - so people can see it's not all about trashing. Although I DO love that part! Perhaps a bit of a template for the contributor so a reader knows if any given product is better suited for them. Like eye color, complexion coloring, skin type and hair color such a chestnut or salon blonde. I don't know if other sites have such a thing and if so please do tell.

hi there sorry to butt in!

There is already a thread about bad experiences with products here:

http://www.gurugossip.net/general-discussion-f10/bad-experience-with-products-gurus-rave-about-t394.htm

making a poll covering all those headings is a big job! having said that, we could start small with favourite makeup brands and then make our way down your list there? I imagine these polls will require their own section eventually!

good idea though, thanks!

Small Steps Are Best

Post  Guest on 24th October 2010, 9:11 am

Please never say butt in tictac, I value your opinion VERY highly! Heck, you're our go to gal! I only addressed this to LuLu as a general salutation as she was the founder if you will, but yeah please do jump in anytime!! Very Happy

I know it would be a massive undertaking and I like your idea to start small. So, I'm off to check out the link you gave us.

Thanks!

I could easily create a new forum area for makeup/beauty related posts so that it would be separate from the general area. We could see how much activity goes on and take it from there. Sound good?

Delightful!

Post  Guest on 24th October 2010, 10:27 am

If enough traffic drove through there, it may do well and if so I feel would be a useful tool. The trick I think will be to not have it be too prose or narrative looking. That will require reading through when often one just wants categories and brands, shades - that type of thing. Then somewhere a bit of reasoning and explanation and caveats at the bottom of each post if needed. You know, set formats. I reckon all that can get hammered out. Yes, please do start us off! flower

PS: If online orders are placed - to share which companies are great and not so great too.

Yay, thanks for suggesting this! There are just way too many products in the world to navigate through and look up on Makeup Alley. =D

It might catch on

Post  Guest on 28th October 2010, 3:38 am

and then again it might not. Depending on if people want to only rave/rant and/or share makeup ideas. I think the polls are a great start - either bi monthly or whatever. Like take the winner of the brands poll and subdivide items from that brand. Yeah, it's a HUGE topic that may not fit this format too well. It's all good though. Thanks Very Happy!

I've always suffered with massive blackheads on my nose, nothing at all that I've tried ever made a difference. I turned 21 two years ago and decided to try again (I recently became totally comfortable in my skin, but saw a new product) I was completely surprised with the results. At first it was like any other blackhead product, it would soften enough to get a few out but I decided to try it for a month before I threw it out. After two weeks of two/three times a week (it is a mask) my blackheads were soft enough that they would just wash out in the shower! Surprised It leaves my skin soft, not dry and it tingles as it dries. My pores stopped filling up with blackheads after a few months and I have no need for it anymore, but I do keep it around for once a week just in case.

Clean & Clear is also owned by Johnson and Johnson which means that every time you wash your face, you're doing so at the expense of a helpless animal.
